Caliper pistons
HAYES brakes should also be selected according to the number of pistons that the brake caliper contains. More caliper pistons deliver more stopping power due to the larger frictional area of the pads. The caliper is generally larger and can thus dissipate heat better and generate less power loss during long braking sessions. 4-piston brakes are thus designed for the most demanding applications, such as e-bike, downhill, all-mountain, freeride or enduro. 2-piston brakes, on the other hand, are noticeably lighter and provide a great option for dosing braking power. 2-piston brakes are also cheaper and are suitable for light trail, XC - Cross-Country or kids' or city bikes.
