Special insert for HOPE V4 brake calipers. This tool is printed according to official HOPE specifications and is used to correctly fill the fluid when using 1.8 mm and 2.3 mm wide HOPE discs in combination with HOPE V4 brake calipers. Use this insert at the end of the brake bleeding/filling process. Insert the insert into the caliper and, with the expansion tank cap open, repeatedly press the lever. This will cause the pistons to extend slightly. Add fluid to the expansion tank, which will fill the system with more fluid. The insert is made of PETG material with a minimum filling of 70%, making it very strong and very difficult to compress. The insert is held inside the caliper by a mounting screw, which you can use from your existing brake pads.
The aim is to fill the brake with more fluid so that when the pistons move towards narrower discs, such as HOPE Floating (1.8 mm) or HOPE Fixed (2.3 mm), there is more fluid left in the expansion reservoir. This will achieve stable performance under high loads with the V4 caliper in combination with narrower discs. The V4 caliper can accommodate a 3.3 mm wide disc. You will appreciate this procedure especially when you have worn down the disc and pads to their limits, which causes increased fluid transfer from the expansion tank to the caliper. More oil in the system prevents the lever from dropping and unstable engagement or loss of brake performance.
After bleeding the HOPE V4 brake, leave the expansion reservoir on the lever open (open cap with the membrane removed). Insert this insert into the brake caliper without pads and secure it with the pad screw. Now repeatedly press the lever on the brake lever. This will cause the pistons to move slightly out of the caliper, as the insert is narrower than the caliper opening itself. Now fill the lever's expansion tank with fluid and insert the seal or diaphragm (in the same way as after bleeding - by rolling it from the wider to the narrower part of the expansion tank - i.e. so that the air under the diaphragm is gradually pushed out together with part of the fluid). Now close the expansion tank with the cap and tighten the Torx screws. Clean the lever of any fluid, ideally using isopropyl alcohol. You can now remove the insert from the caliper. Done!
