Original MAGURA 8.R brake pads - organic Race compound. The compound on the Race model is designed for those who go to the limit and demand high braking performance with immediate onset on steep descents regardless of lower power modulation. MAGURA 8.R Race pads are designed for performance/race riders and fast downhill rides where a sharp increase in braking power is required, followed by another fast pass, or where the rider is not standing on the brakes. The pads can be fitted to MT5 / MT5 PRO / MT5 eSTOP / MT5e / MT7 / MT7 PRO / MT7 HC3 / MT7 Raceline / MT TRAIL SPORT (front) / MT TRAIL SL (front) / MT C5.
Expect extreme bite and higher noise (squeaking) with these plates, so better dosage = more sensitive fingers. The pads have a lower life span just because of the higher "bite", so they are not suitable for riders who brake the whole hill (standing on the brakes). Before your first steep descent, we recommend to ride the pads see below and then test them on a familiar and stable surface.
To achieve maximum braking performance, all newly fitted pads need to be run in, an important process that should not be skipped! If the pads are not seated, the pad surface can "glass", which seriously affects the frictional properties of the pads and leads to a deterioration in braking performance.
For this purpose, choose a flat/non-slippery surface without traffic. Run the bike at a speed of approx. 30 km/h. Slow down to a stop with one brake. Brake firmly, but not into a skid. Repeat this procedure at least 30 times with each brake separately. The brake pads and discs will engage and provide optimum braking performance.
Sintered pads take much longer to break in than organic compound (resin) pads. Keep this in mind when purchasing sintered compound pads and extend your break-in time! In general, the more durable the pad compound, the longer the pads will take to run in. Brakes will reach their full to potential after a few runs!
The limit when MAGURA pads are considered worn or require replacement with new ones is if they are less than 2.5mm high (including the carrier base).
If the pads have less than this amount of compound, we recommend replacing them immediately with new ones to avoid damage to the braking system or injury to the rider!
