The great MAGURA MDR-P disc is designed for the most demanding applications such as enduro, downhill and electric bikes. Increased braking surface of the outer ring and an aluminium central carrier that dissipates heat better. Due to the increased surface area, pad wear has been reduced by 15% and modulation of braking performance is also increased. Thanks to the aluminium central carrier, the low weight of the disc has been maintained. Compared to standard discs, this disc increases braking performance by 10% to 20% (depending on the disc size). It is a semi-floating disc that allows axial movement of the outer ring. This floating design better handles temperature changes on the outer ring, making it larger when heated, thus reducing the possibility of the disc bending under high loads.
All weights listed below are exclusive of the 6 steel hub mounting screws included with the reel. These 6 screws weigh an additional 15g.
The maximum tightening torque of the hub mounting bolts supplied with the disc is 4Nm - do not exceed the maximum tightening torque as this could damage the aluminium central carrier and cause serious injury!
Because the disc is semi-floating, there is still a small clearance between the rivet and the washer in relation to other parts such as the outer ring and the central carrier. During the use of the brake disc and as it wears, it is normal to notice some rotational play between the outer ring and the central carrier or rivets! However, this rotational clearance should not be more than 1mm, otherwise the disc will have to be replaced due to already high wear!
This behaviour of the brake disc (rotational play) is not a defect, but a manufacturing feature that allows the outer ring to move more freely in relation to the aluminium central carrier, thus making it more resistant to temperature changes between the outer and central carrier of the disc, which could otherwise cause it to bend.
Do not use Center Lock reducers on MAGURA MDR-P discs. Tightening the nut of the Center Lock reducer could cause damage to the aluminium central carrier!
