Brake lever

• the brake lever body is made on CNC machines from 2014 T6 aluminium alloy, which is used in aerospace
• ergonomic aluminium brake lever with a very soft step thanks to the roller bearings
• longer lever offers a 30% increase in power over the Tech 3 version and modulation or power delivery over a longer lever step range
• the end of the lever is equipped with small dimples at the end for firm contact between the gloved finger and the lever surface
• thanks to the "snap-on" handlebar sleeve, the profile is reduced and there are no protruding screws
• the lever can be combined with adapters for mounting the shifter directly on the brake lever sleeve with a 30° tilt
• the lever is specifically left or right handed and the correct model must be purchased for its positioning
• the lever can be removed from the handlebars without removing the grips or the shifter
• 9.5mm brake piston is sealed with 1x conical seal and 1x o-ring
• precision machined and tested hydraulic axial system using DOT 5.1 brake oil
• with the HOPE Tech 4 brake lever it is possible to adjust the distance of the lever from the handlebar and the lever step without the need for tools (by turning the wheels on the end lever)
• expansion tank cap, available in various colour combinations
• set screws for adjusting the lever pitch and distance can be purchased in different colour combinations

Brake caliper

• the caliper, like the lever, is made on CNC machines from 2014 T6 aluminium alloy, which is used in aviation
• the caliper is made from a single piece of CNC machined aluminium and there is no loss of power as with a split caliper
• The HOPE E4 caliper is a 4-piston caliper, i.e. it contains a set of 4 independent pistons
• The large 16mm pistons give the brake high performance in all situations
• the pistons are hybrid or made of smooth stainless steel and are filled with phenolic inserts to absorb the increased heat load
• the caliper is equipped with an expansion spring between the brake pads
• the pads are secured in the caliper by a locking screw
• swivel banjo brake hose connection, which allows the hose to be directed away from the caliper and towards the wheel
• post mount or PM mounting of the brake caliper
• M6 screws for mounting the caliper to the frame or fork (using an inbus wrench) are also included
• precision engineered and tested hydraulic system using DOT 5.1 brake oil

Brake pads

• caliper is supplied with HOPE organic brake pads
• it is a version of the plates that is connected into one via 2-pistons on each side
• RACE (green) organic compound
  • it is a racing compound that has increased efficiency, increased heat resistance and is quicker to bed-in

Hose

• the brake is supplied with a 5mm diameter braided hydraulic hose
• the length of the unshortened hose is 2000mm
• parts after shortening the hose to the required length are also included

Recomended disc rotor

• combine the brake with HOPE Floating, HOPE Standard brake discs
• recommended discs are available in 140, 160, 180, 200, 203 and 220mm diameters
• brake disc is not included in the brake package!

Weight

• the weight of the one brake is 343g (including the full length of hose, without disc and fixing M6 screws)

HOPE brake pads characteristics

Important information

• Read the following warnings carefully!
• Failure to follow these warnings may result in injury or death!
• Failure to follow the warnings below may void your warranty!

WARNING!

The HOPE E4 caliper is not compatible with HOPE Floating Vented brake discs!
Only combine HOPE E4 brake caliper with HOPE Floating discs (default width 1.8 mm) or HOPE Fixed discs (default width 2.3 mm).
The minimum thickness (disc wear limit) is 1.5 mm. Do not exceed the minimum disc thickness!

WARNING!

For proper installation of the brake, carefully read the manual supplied with each brake!
Observe the specified maximum tightening torques for all HOPE Tech 4 E4 brake components!

WARNING!

Use DOT 5.1 brake fluid (or DOT 4) as the brake medium.
Never use mineral oil, as it will damage the seals and the brake will have to be completely cleaned and resealed!

WARNING!

To ensure proper brake performance, it is always necessary to perform the so-called bed-in process, i.e., the process of pre-seating the pads and discs.

The process is as follows. Accelerate the bike to approx. 20 km/h and then brake to a speed of approx. 5 km/h. Repeat the process at least 20 times (a maximum of 30 times is sufficient) for each brake (front and rear) separately! After this process, the pads should be bedded-in (slightly worn), the disc should be slightly worn (sanded), and the brake should have optimal braking performance, which will increase slightly over time with each meter braked (not traveled). This process will ensure high-quality and proper brake performance.

WARNING!

Sintered / metallic brake pads with bedding-in up to 2x as long as organic pads! With sintered pads, pay extra attention to the bed-in process before using the pads, which is much more important with this type of pad.
